The Illustrations of Connor Finley

a (cliche) love poem inspired by a dream of mine

Last night I dreamt I was with you

and all our loved ones were near;

only love was to be found.

Last night I dreamt I was with you

and I saw your beautiful smile;

I’ve never felt safer.

Last night I dreamt we were together

and our hands were clasped;

it felt so right.

This morning I awoke to find myself alone

and yet again without you by my side;

I’ve never been more let-down by awaking from a good dream.

This morning I awoke to find myself alone

and you so close yet and ocean away;

cowardice and longing, fear and anxiety

comprise the storm that ravages my ship

as I travel this great sea towards you.

Perhaps I’ll drown

consumed by this turbulent sea.

For I’m nothing of a navigator.
